8 Tips for a Safe Halloween

  • Choose a costume that is visible, comfortable, and weather-appropriate.
  • Make sure your child knows their address and phone number.
  • Review road safety rules together before going out.
  • Set a return time and plan a way to communicate if plans change.
  • Remind your child to always stay with friends or an adult—never alone.
  • Explain that they should only knock on well-lit houses and never enter a home or vehicle.
  • Encourage them to walk on sidewalks, avoid the road, and not run.
  • Check all treats before they are eaten (packaging, allergies, hard candy).
